Spotlights – IronWorks
So, I thought it might be more interesting if a number of machines were showcased in one slightly more expansive multi-page editorial piece giving the builder (or artist) a chance to explain each machine in a short paragraph, in their own words. This is a riff of the art books i’ve read. I have been looking for a way to give voice to the artist and to show more of their work – and this was my answer.
Importantly, the Spotlight allows me to represent machines that have been photographed before and shown in publications “already” – albeit, in a completely new photographic style and in context of their “siblings”. This in an of itself is notable and has been met with some great response from both the artist who appreciates having an opportunity for folks to see more of their work and shown as a collection, a “body of work”, if you will. The reader benefits as well – they are presented a more expansive portfolio of what that artist is doing.
The Spotlight allows the builder/artist to show a good range of work, captured in a consistent highly detailed manner, shot in the same day, in the same place – through the same POV and eye.
Personally, I enjoy shooting a Spotlight.
It gives me a chance to spend the day with the Artist, it allows me to dig in and understand their work and what drives them.
it gives me an opportunity to present their work as a collection, a contiguous body of work, something no one else is doing.
It gives me a chance to help another creative kindred spirit show their work and find their audience.
It doesn’t get better than that……
